Bluetooth Not A Toothbrush But A Powerful New Wireless Technology

Do not study this guide if you are looking for a special type of toothbrush. Do not bother to read this guide if you are investigating facts about the various tooth whiteners. Do not set-aside time to examine this guide if you are intent on the discovery of more information about dental schools. Do read this article if you have an interest in technological developments.

Bluetooth does not describe a dental condition in which a patient has blue teeth. The term “Bluetooth” signifies a special new technology, a technology of the 21st Century. The devices with Bluetooth technology allow the user of such devices to conduct 2-way transmissions over short distances. Usually the distance between the communicating Bluetooth devices runs no more than 150 feet. . The individual who has access to two or more devices with Bluetooth technology has the ability to carryout such short-range communications.

One big advantage to having access to some of the devices with the Bluetooth technology is the opportunity one gains to conduct a “conversation” between mobile and stationary technological items.

The Bluetooth car kit underlines the plus side of having access to the Bluetooth technology. The Bluetooth car kit sets the stage for a “conversation” between a mobile and a stationary electrical gadget.

For example, the Bluetooth car kit permits a cell phone in the garage to communicate with a home computer. Thanks to Bluetooth, a car driver with a cell phone could sit inside a car and send a message to a home computer. By the same token, Bluetooth technology could allow a car to send a message to a personal computer. Such a message could inform a car owner that the motor vehicle sitting in the garage needed an oil change, rotation of the tires or some other routine procedure.

Not all of modern automobiles come equipped with Bluetooth technology. So far only Acura, BMW, Toyota Prius and Lexus have chosen to provide the consumer with this special feature. In order for the car owner to benefit from the potential of Bluetooth technology in a motor vehicle, all of the devices with that technology must use the same type of profile.

For example, if a car audio system contains devices with the Bluetooth technology, then any of the communications that take place between those devices require Bluetooth equipment that uses the same profile. Such restrictions typically specify that the Bluetooth car kit will work only if all of the inter-device communicating involves equipment that operates under the hands-free profile. In other words, a Bluetooth car kit would not be expected to allow a cell phone with a headset profile to communicate with a computer that had a dial-up networking profile.

Of course Bluetooth technology is not confined to the automobile. It has also been responsible for allowing young teens to listen to music from an iPod, while at the same time being equipped and ready to handle any number of cell phone calls. On other occasions those same teens might choose to use the Bluetooth technology to send selected images from a digital camera to a home computer.

The Bluetooth technology has demonstrated the ability to lay the groundwork for creation of a mobile entertainment system. It could also facilitate the quick assembly of an operating and mobile office space. The father of the young teen who was listening to a iPod could very-well be the traveling business man at the airport, the man who must wait for a delayed flight. Access to the Bluetooth technology would give such a man the ability to set-up a temporary “office” in the airport terminal.

Once that same traveling businessman had reached his destination, and once he had settled in a motel room, then he might use the Bluetooth technology to send signals from a laptop computer to a printer server. Both younger and older adults have demonstrated that Bluetooth technology is definitely a technology of the 21st Century. Who could guess that the Bluetooth technology got its name from King Harold, “Bluetooth,” of Denmark, who lived back in the 10th Century? King Harold sought to unite the countries of Scandinavia, much as the Bluetooth technology helps the different types of informational devices to work in unison.

Why do 90% of Online Businesses in South Africa Fail?

It is estimated that over 90% of new websites fail within the first year of existence. Interestingly enough, the same can be said for the restaurant industry, as only 1 out of each 10 new restaurants experience real rewards.

With such negative odds it seems that many are taking a foolish gamble for a shot at success. Yet, there are certain individuals who are able to launch successful restaurants and online businesses time and time again with amazing success rates.

Why is this? Almost all of these entrepreneurs failed many times before they succeeded, but, the key to their success is a winning formula derived from trial and error.

The Internet is no different. Through the Dot-Bomb era, millions of websites failed and through this collective information, it was possible to develop a successful formula. A formula used by R.O.I Media to ensure the success of their websites and their clients’ websites.

Highlighted below are some of the modern principles for online success. It is guaranteed that if businesses actually adhered to these principles, 90% of them would be smiling rather than crying.

1. The 5 P’s (Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance)

The key to launching a successful online business is down to proper planning. Before launching any online business you need identify your potential target market and demand. Online Businesses have distinct advantage over traditional brick and mortar businesses due to the fact that we can identify demand for any industry based on the daily demand indicated in search volume.

For instance, the keyword “cape town accommodation” is searched for ± 350 times a day. Therefore it’s feasible to launch a site that offers bookings for accommodation in Cape Town. The demand is visible in the searches done by users.

2. Competitor Analysis

It’s surprising how many new online businesses launch and when asked the question, ‘name your top 5 competitors?’ few can give you a direct answer. By identifying your competitors, you gain valuable competitor intelligence which can help mould your business model. It’s important to see:

How much competition is in your industry?
More competition makes it harder to compete. Sometimes the better angle is to target segments with less competitor saturation.

Price Comparison
Customers in this day and age are becoming more and more price sensitive. With the internet, customers are able to shop around for the lowest price within minutes and most of the time they are drawn by a low price. It’s sometimes better to make less profit as opposed to no profit.

Don’t be caught off guard. Identify all your competitors’ prices and position yourself to be competitive and make sure you are able to make enough profit to sustain your business expenses, including marketing.

USP – Unique Selling Proposition
This is a vital question that few business owners can answer. What is your unique selling proposition? Simply put, what do you offer that your competitors don’t offer or what do you do better than your competitors. By launching a product range that is not unique in any way, will not give you a distinct advantage in the marketplace and will set you up for failure.

3. Build it and they will come (Traffic)

Many new websites spend far too much time and money on launching a website. Once the site is launched, they do far too little to promote the website and as a result few people come to the website. Being out there is not enough; you need to actively promote your website online in order to get traffic to the website. Traffic can be generated through SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and PPC (Pay per Click services).

Interestingly, 88% of all internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. In February 2008, there were nearly 10 billion core searches done in the US alone. Search Engine Optimization is the process of bringing a website to as high a position as possible in the search results when a user types in a search term in the search engine.

In Layman’s terms, you go to Google and type in “Blue Widgets”, and a website comes up number 1 selling blue widgets, this is due to an effective SEO strategy.

4. Leading the Horse to water (Conversion)

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. The same can be said online. All the traffic in the world will not guarantee sales. More traffic does not always correlate to more sales.

Website effectiveness is measured using a simple metric called Conversion or a website Conversion Rate. To work out your site’s conversion rate, you divide the total amount of unique visitors (NOT hits) by the total amount of sales.

For Example: 100 unique people visit your site, 2 people buy out of that 100, you have a 2% conversion rate.
Conversion Rate = Desired Action/Total Number of Unique Visitors
The average global conversion rate is 2.4%.

The average South African website conversion rate is under 1%. What does this mean? If you are spending an average of R10 per Click (PPC), driving 100 people to your site will cost you R1000. If only 1 in 100 purchase, that sale (cost per acquisition) has cost you R1000. Let’s hope that you made more than R1000 profit or you will generate no return whatsoever. The reality is that most websites suffer from terrible conversion rates. Usually, their sites generate zero returns and actually lose money as their advertising costs exceed their profits.

Did you know that 75% of browsers back out of a shopping cart? It’s even got its own term, called “shopping cart abandonment”. People enter the shopping cart, and something freaks them out to the point that 3 out of 4 run away. Was your delivery cost too high? Did they think your site was a fly by night? Was the return policy not clear? Were they worried about submitting their credit card details? These are some of the reasons that can lead to this.

5. A website is a website, or is it?

The first step before spending vast amounts on marketing is to refine your site’s conversion ratio.
There are websites and then there are online selling machines. The difference is linked to the conversion ratio, one sells and makes money, and one does not.

By effectively increasing a website’s conversion rate, you generate more sales, and more profit without spending more on marketing.

Conclusion:

By following these key guidelines and contacting an expert company with a great track record, online success should not be contributed to luck. Proper planning and execution will ensure long term sustainable success.

Where Spyware Lurks on the Internet

Friday, February 27, 2009

Understand how your computer gets infected with spyware, what websites are likely to carry spyware and how to prevent getting infected by spyware in the first place.

Spyware has to be the most talked about PC security threat of 2005. It has now surpassed the computer virus as the No. 1 menace to computer user both at home and in the enterprise. Despite efforts from Microsoft and independent security software companies, the spyware menace is set to continue through 2009 and beyond. The research firm Radicati Group expect worldwide anti-spyware revenue to surpass $1 billion by 2010.

There are numerous types of spyware with some more dangerous than others. At one end of the spectrum spyware pushes annoying ads to your computer as is usually referred as “Adware.” It is still spyware as the ads are generally pushed to you based on your surfing habits. A bad infection can also dramatically impact your computer’s performance as your desktop slowly gets overwhelmed with pop up adverts.

At the other end of the spectrum spyware programs can record what you do on your computer including individual key strokes. This information is then shared with a third party. This data is then sold to marketing companies or used to profit from. For example, the program may have captured your bank log-in details or credit card information.

Profit from these activities drives spyware development and deployment. According to anti-spyware vendor Webroot Inc advertising revenue generated from spyware is much more lucrative than trying to generate profit through Spam Email.

Here are the common ways spyware gets onto your computer:

• Bundled with free software like screensavers or P2P file sharing programs which you download. For example Kazaa, a P2P file-sharing application, installs adware onto a user’s computer even though it claims to contain “no spyware.” Waterfalls 3 from Screensaver.com installs spyware and Trojan horses. Examples are courtesy of a report from StopBadware.org’s website.
• Opening Spam email attachments.
• Being enticed into clicking on links in pop up adverts which then downloads spyware. These pop ups usually display messages to do with winning money or entering a special prize drawer.
• “Drive-by downloading” – this is when spyware is automatically downloaded onto your computer from the website you are surfing.

Earlier this year a report published by the University of Washington revealed categories of websites which are mostly like to host spyware or infect users through “drive-by downloads.” Their research revealed the following categories:

• Gaming sites
• Music download sites (I interpret this to mean “illegal” music sharing sites like dailymp3.com or where you can find P2P applications)
• Adult sites
• Celebrity sites
• Wallpaper / screensaver sites

Here are some tips and strategies to reduce the chance of spyware infection:

• Switch on your browser’s pop blocker.
• Install an anti-spyware tool with active protection which helps prevent infection in the first place.
• Keep Windows and other Microsoft applications like office up to date with the latest patches.
• Use SiteAdvisor (http://www.siteadvisor.com). This is a free plug-in for your browser which tells you whether a site is safe or not based on their testing. This is new software which is highly recommended.
• If you are a frequent visitor of the high risk categories please consider changing your surfing habits or at least making sure your system is fully protected.

Wireless Lan And Laptop Computers

A small businesses run from home or on rented space, while it can be extremely profitable, cannot be furnished in the same style as a large-scale company office. Using standard full-size desktop computers in such a set up is impracticable, as it takes up too much space and is too bulky for cramped confines. To deal with such a situation, desknotes or transportables may just hold the key.

Desknotes are systems that can be alternately used as a standard desktop PC, but also offers portability into the bargain. Desknotes have the same power levels as a desktop PC and occupy much less room. Moreover, to keep expenses to a minimum, it is possible to install a LAN amongst the desknotes, where only one laptop need be connected to the Internet and access is shared to all the laptops connected to the network. This is also true for the devices connected to the central laptop; through LAN, all the laptops can use the same device. Thus, for small offices with three or more laptops, LAN (Local Area Network) is surely a boon.

LANs usually span a building or a small group of buildings. Connecting one LAN with many others through telephone lines and radio waves is called WAN (Wide Area Network). A Local Area Network that uses radio waves to communicate is called WLAN (Wireless Land Area Network). There are several advantages to WLANs. One is its flexibility. Radio waves can pass through walls of nearly any surface, and also do not require miles and miles of cables, thus offering a clutter-free work atmosphere. Wireless LAN can be almost invisible!

Another advantage is that WLANs are extremely easy to use. Most laptops are built in with WLAN capability. So all you need to do is plug in and make sure you have a wireless LAN card. WLANs are very tough. If one base becomes disconnected, it is possible to use another laptop as a base and can be shifted physically into the range of another WLAN. Prices are very low these days for WLAN, and it is no wonder the choice for home networks.

However, as nothing is perfect in this world, WLAN does carry a few disadvantages. Anyone can operate a laptop near a WLAN and hack into the stored wireless traffic. This makes safety an issue due to the loss of privacy. While radio waves can pass through almost any surface, too many obstacles in the path such as buildings can degrade the transmission. Another drawback is the data transfer speed. As many laptops share the same bandwidth, data transfer speeds are significantly lower in a WLAN. In addition to this, wireless data rates fall according to signal strength or interference.

Wireless LAN is convenient where mobility is required, and is the only choice in old buildings where cables cannot be installed. Companies usually provide wired connections for fixed offices, and wireless LAN for those users who have no fixed location. In the end, WLAN should be installed only after taking into account all factors regarding your office or home set up.

Your Tip for Calming Fussy Babies Could Be a Winner

Thursday, February 26, 2009

If you've found yourself soothing your baby by vacuuming in the dark, taking a car ride at 2 a.m. or singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" a cappella, then you're not alone.

Parents are apt to try out-of-the-ordinary remedies for a moment of silence when their babies become fussy.

Babies' cries tell you a lot about their moods, whether they're tired, upset or hungry. Some parents may notice their baby's excessive fussiness occurs during and after feeding times. Nearly 1 million infants experience common feeding problems at some point during their first year of life, which may be due to a baby's developing tummy being intolerant of a cow's milk-based formula.

Here are a few signs that may indicate a feeding problem:

* Fussiness after each feeding

* Unwillingness to eat

* Curling legs up in discomfort after feedings

* Excessive gassiness

* Excessive spitting-up after each feeding or vomiting

* Change in stool consistency

If you suspect your baby may have a feeding problem, discuss these symptoms with your pediatrician. Improvement in formula tolerance can be related to the formula or the effect of switching formula. Clinical evidence supports that switching from a milk-based infant formula to Isomil Advance, a soy-based infant formula, can reduce fussiness, gas and spit-up in most infants in just three days.

To celebrate Isomil Advance's three-day soy solution and 40-year heritage of solving fussiness, gas and spit-up in infants, enter the Isomil Advance "Fuss-Free" Get-Away contest and share your best baby-calming tip. You could win a relaxing three-day, no-fuss vacation for you and a guest at the Miravel Resort and Spa in Tucson, Ariz.

The contest winner will receive the child care of her choice, even if that means flying grandma in to watch the kids. Enter now to win a relaxing three-day trip where all the fuss is about you.

What To Expect From A Twin Pregnancy: ABC’s Of Multiple Birth

Imagine wishing and trying for one baby and ending up with two! Statistics show that there has been an increase in twin pregnancy the past few years and this short guide should answer any questions you have to giving birth to multiples!

How do twins begin?
There are two kinds of twins: identical twins and fraternal twins. In the case of identical twins, the egg is fertilized and then splits into two cells. Each cell carries identical DNA and so both children will look exactly the same with only slight differences such as height or birthmarks. Fraternal twins are not identical. Instead of having one egg that splits into two, there are two eggs that are fertilized by two different sperm at the same time so they could be of two different sexes with different physical characteristics.

Early signs of twin pregnancy
An early sign of twin pregnancy is excessive morning sickness and extreme fatigue. Morning sickness is common with all pregnant mothers but those who are giving birth to multiples tend to experience more morning sickness than usual. Exhaustion is another early sign of twin pregnancy. Again, it is not uncommon for pregnant women to be more tired than usual but those who are having twins tend to undergo enhanced exhaustion. Twins are hereditary and so if you are feeling excessively tired, are often nauseous and twins run in your family, you very well could be giving birth to multiples!

Twin pregnancy facts
With twins, you’ll have to prepare for double the trouble! This means you will probably be gaining more weight than with a single pregnancy. Due to this extra weight, a pregnancy with twins can often be more uncomfortable – severe exhaustion, stronger backaches and headaches, etc. So get plenty of sleep and rest. Try a pregnancy massage, a great stress reliever to those giving birth to multiples. Also be prepared for a possible c-section, as with multiples this is the more common way of giving birth. Because a twin pregnancy is considered a high risk pregnancy, you will probably need to consult your obstetrician more often than if you were having a regular pregnancy. Do not be fazed as this is quite common with twins.

Having a twin pregnancy is most certainly a mixed blessing. Whilst having two children is an amazing experience, the pregnancy itself can be tough so make sure to take care of yourself.

Your Swimming Pool Could Get You Sued

A backyard swimming pool or spa can be an invitation for trouble if someone gets injured. Find out how to protect yourself from law suits that could destroy you financially.

Installing a backyard swimming pool can make those hot summers a lot more fun and relaxing, but could it get you into a lot of financial trouble too? The short answer is: yes.

If you're not properly insured, and someone gets hurt in your pool, you are inviting law suits. I know what you're thinking: my friends and family are the only ones who use my pool... they're not going to sue me if anything happens.

Guess again.

It's not necessarily that people love to sue or even want to. They may have to. With the high costs of medical expenses today, a family that suffers a serious injury (or--god forbid--a death) probably can't afford not to sue. And if a person was injured at your pool in your backyard, guess who's technically at fault?

If someone gets hurt, don't be surprised by a lawsuit: expect it. And don't think you can watch the pool every moment to make sure nothing happens. Accidents will occur no matter how relentless you are in trying to prevent them. Risks of accidents are statistically proven to be very high around backyard pools and hot tubs.

This isn't to say you should pour dirt into your pool, plant a nice safe flower bed, and post "keep out of yard" signs all over your backyard. You just need to make sure you are adequately covered when it comes to insurance.

Okay, you're sold. Now how do you make sure you're covered?

If you own a swimming pool or hot tub, you should carry very high liability insurance, i.e. in the range of a million dollars or more.

This can be tricky since many homeowner's insurance policies limit the maximum exposure of the insurer to $100,000. Sometimes you can get this raised to $300,000, but getting covered beyond that, from your homeowner's plan alone, will likely prove difficult.

This is why you want to look into an umbrella plan. This is a separate liability policy in addition to your homeowner's coverage. It generally picks up where your homeowner's insurance leaves off, and you can get coverage of several million dollars.

The cost for this additional coverage is usually minimal, in the neighborhood of $500 per year. This may seem pricey, but considering the millions of dollars of coverage it affords you, it's worth the money, especially if you entertain and have a hot tub or pool.

One last thing to note is that you may have to buy all your insurance from the same place, which would include home and auto. If you have a pool or spa, it's probably worth changing insurers to find one who offers an umbrella plan.

Youth Connect Communities With New Technology

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

From blogging to podcasting to creating online videos, 4-H youth are leading the way, using new media and communication tools to share breaking news, even coverage and educational information with their community.

For example, the 4-H News technology club in Jefferson County, Wash., provides on-the-spot reports through video clips and podcasts posted to their 4-H Network News Web site. Club members have covered a fire in an historic hotel and a Red Cross disaster training exercise and conducted interviews with local business leaders.

The youth are hands-on in every step of putting together the one-to-two-minute news segments. "We get ideas about what we'll do and who we'll interview, then we take the camera, tape footage, put it on the computers and edit it," 15-year-old Sophie Gilbert said.

Gilbert first created a video about a school reunion but quickly saw the educational value for her community. She has produced segments about avoiding drugs and alcohol and a beach restoration project. "There is a need for us to talk about some of the important things going on in our county and in the world," she said.

The club came together as a collaboration among the local 4-H club, the Washington State University Extension office and the local newspaper. Jack Olmsted, 4-H leader for the club, Pamela Roberts, 4-H coordinator for the Jefferson County 4-H office, and the newspaper's publisher work closely with the youth.

"Online media can be a priceless resource to capture not only the value of the 4-H experience, but also for our community, country and the world," said Olmsted. "The youth are getting the process down and planning segments while making them enjoyable but also informative."

The 4-H reporters publish their stories to an international audience using tools that are readily available in homes and offices-a video camera, computer linked to the Internet and telephone. "It is important to show the world that this can be done and it's easy for anyone to do," said 13-year-old Daniel Bryant.

Club members see themselves as a resource to others who want to start using online media. They also improve their public speaking skills and build self-esteem as they teach adults how to create and post news segments.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.

Zero Down Payment Mortgage Loans

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

The days of most home owners putting ten percent down on a 30 year mortgage are long gone. One new option is zero down payment mortgage loans.

Zero Down Payment Mortgage Loans

Whenever you are looking for a loan, there are some good principles to remember. First of all, the more money you can put down on a home, the less your interest rate will be and the better deal you will get. Secondly, never settle for the first offer you get, always shop around and compare different offers. Those principles considered, there is a form of loan that may contradict them but still has its purpose: the zero down payment mortgage loans.

Zero down payment mortgage loans are just as they sound, they allow you to mortgage your home with a lender without having to put any money down on the loan itself. What you should know about this, first of all, is that it is violating the above principles and that this form of loan should be sought as a last resort. By restricting yourself to a zero down payment mortgage loan, you are restricting the offers you can get from lenders, since at that point most lenders will offer you the same exact deal. Also, putting no money down will lead to much higher interest rates then you would be paying otherwise.

That being said, zero down payment mortgage loans still serve their purpose. These loans, because they require no down payment, are good for those who have difficulty coming up with the cash savings required for a down payment on a home purchase. This loan can be useful in times when the market is at a low and starting to rise, since the value of the home will rise after the loan has been taken out, and the loan can be used in these cases since if the person receiving the loan waits, the market prices of home could rise considerably over that time. But remember, whenever you use a no down payment mortgage loan, the bank owns complete equity of the home and these leaves you no leverage for receiving loans against your equity. You will only earn equity as you pay off the home and as the value of the home rises.

At first glance, zero down payment loans sound like a great deal. In truth, they should be used as a last resort given the fact you will pay significantly more in interest over the length of the loan. At the end of the day, however, owning a home is better than not owning one, so these loans certainly have their place in the market.

Your Successful Tutoring Business!

Tutoring does not require a teaching certificate or Master’s Degree. In fact many successful tutors do not have either of these. What is most important is that tutors are enthusiastic, empathetic, friendly & knowledgeable about their subject!

How To Go From A Dead End Job To Being A High Paid Tutor!

Why has tutoring and supplemental education become such a booming market?

With NCLB (No Child Left Behind) in place, many teachers have additional responsibilities and students can easily fall behind. With National tests and exams, teachers have to spend a lot of time prepping students for these exams and tests and don’t have as much time to help the struggling student.

Parents dream of their child doing well in school, going to college and starting a successful career, but when they are not doing well in a subject, parents will readily call for a tutor for help!

Many households have two working parents, leaving little or no time to assist their children in their school work which makes the idea of a specialized tutor very appealing to them. Working parents have extra money but don’t always have a lot of extra time.

Parents wish they could afford private school for their children and choose instead to hire tutors to supplement their children’s education. Also, as class sizes continue to grow, the idea of individualized help becomes more and more appealing!

Tutoring does not require a teaching certificate or Master’s Degree. In fact many successful tutors do not have either of these. What is most important is that tutors are enthusiastic, empathetic, friendly & knowledgeable about their subject!

Many also don’t realize that tutoring is not just a seasonal business based on the school year… students enrolled in summer school need help, and students looking to get ahead and stay current in their work over the summer often call on the help of a tutor!

Tutoring is a great business for many people including moms, dads
entrepreneurs, college students, teachers, self employed persons, and home schoolers. Again, you do not need to have a teaching degree or certification to become a tutor.

You can choose where you want to work….in your home, at your local library or at your student’s home. Tutoring in your own home is great because it allows you to maximize your time and book sessions back to back. It also means you save on gas and avoid this added cost for a session.

Working at a library or a local coffee shop is also a good idea. Most libraries have a study room that can be reserved free of charge and this is a quiet but still public place to work together. Coffee Shops are a fun place to meet although they can sometimes be distracting for the student.

In addition to choosing where you want to work, you determine your availability, the people you want to work with, your hourly rate and you choose the subject you want to teach! The time is right for you to reach out and start your own tutoring business and make a difference in someone’s life!

Your Website...Is YOU!

Your website represents you. Its appearance can make or break sales. Great websites entice visitors to stay, buy and return again and again. Fantastic design features include: surfability, the importance of the main page, the appeal and ease on the eyes in the use of color, screen resolutions and browsers.

You are out shopping for healthy, designer food. You visit two health food stores. The first one is bright and cheerful: Its products are displayed pleasingly and its staff, with crisp, starched aprons on, are slim, friendly and helpful with smiles that twinkle. There is another health food store just across the road: Similar products. A fat, greasy-haired sweaty man, breath redolent of whisky, garlic and fermented cheese, egg stains on the front of his crumpled shirt, the middle of which strains to stay closed struggling to keeping its charge - a protruding belly - within, tired buttons at the ready to pop...comes to serve you.

You are your website: It is a reflection of who you are, your product, your service. Portray yourself as a trained, seasoned professional. Your website is the only contact your customers, potential and current, have with you. You must create an atmosphere that is pleasing to your buyers to make them want to stay and buy, and more importantly, to want to come back again and again. You want to aim for repeat business. The long and short of it is this: Your website can make or break your sales...and your business.

TRICKS OF THE TRADE
What secrets can you apply in the design of your website?

1. Surfability
Do your research by visiting several websites. Note what make them appealing, attractive or the opposite. Always remember that visitors to your site have one goal in mind: They are either seeking information or shopping for a product. Your goal is to give them what they want without their having to search for it. It is a cardinal rule to make your site easy to navigate. Ensure that all the information is relevant to your product/service. Convince visitors that they absolutely need your product to solve their problem(s).

2. The First Impression Lingers...The Importance of your Main Page
The main page has a very specific purpose: It is the store front of your website where your visitor lands and from where she/he will shop. Therefore, this page must load very quickly and be easy to view. This is the first contact with your customer: First impressions can either close a deal or...lose this same deal which has exactly the same potential.

Make things simple: Ensure that links are easily viewable by your visitors and that these links will navigate your visitors to where they wish to go. Very often, a great choice is the use of tables when deciding how to design the main page of your site. If your page takes more than ten seconds to load even on a 56k modem, your visitor will click away, through impatience, or to save time, seeking information or products elsewhere. To speed up the loading of your main page, it is advisable to avoid large, or excessive, graphics. Too many banners or special effects often also cause a page to load slowly.

3. Make your Website Appealing to, and Easy for, the Eyes
* Colours
Mild colors are your best bet. If your site is a content site where your visitor will be doing a lot of reading, it is a good idea to keep to black and white. You can add color when using tables as a means to brighen up the page. However, always remember to keep the overall look of the page professional and appealing to your target audience that will be visiting more often.

* Screen Resolutions
These vary among monitors. It is, therefore, good counsel to set the pixels to a standard 800x600. You may also choose to set the tables in your web page to span a percentage of the page rather than a set number of inches. This will be sure to accommodate all screen sizes.

* Browsers
Bear in mind that a lot of Internet users will not use the same browser as you. Therefore, make sure that your site looks as good on other browsers as it does on your own. You can do this by downloading several browsers through which to look at your page.

Be aware that the overall look of your website is to make it attractive to visitors, which in turn appeals to emotions and, therefore, lead to sales and to make money for you. The appearance of your site, if properly designed, can be an excellent marketing strategy for your product/service.

7 Reasons Why You Should Join A Forum Today

Monday, February 23, 2009

Human beings are social by nature, and online communities or forums are the latest in a long progression of social organizations created by humankind. While many people join forums specifically for the social benefits, there are several good reasons for Internet entrepreneurs to join an online forum. Here are the top seven benefits you and your online business can reap.

The top reason many Internet business men and women join forums is for the search engine benefits. Many forums are tremendously popular with search engines and so not only rank well but also are regularly crawled. Most forums offer an introductions area as well as a signature area where you can promote your web site or sites. In addition, as you participate in a forum that is relevant to your site's topic there will likely be opportunities to work your site into conversation. All these links can be of tremendous benefit in terms of search engine rankings and relevant back links.

However, if you think that search engine benefits are the beginning and end of the ways you and your Internet business can profit from joining a forum then you are missing out on a lot of learning.

If you are going to join a forum then join a forum that help you learn more about your niche. Even if you are an expert in your field there is always more to be learned and where else to go for that knowledge than a place where others knowledgeable in your area also hang out? That is what is so wonderfully flexible about forums. There really is an Internet community for everyone and every interest. Your task is to find the forum where your peers are already hanging out. Learning more about your niche is a tremendous benefit of joining a forum.

You don't need to restrict your forum memberships to those within your field. It is also wise to join forums that can help you learn more about how to run your business. Find forums of other small business owners and entrepreneurs. You will soon be able to find folks who are at your level of expertise as well as those with more experience willing to share their hard-earned lessons. Soon you'll have the opportunity to repay that debt by mentoring other newbies. This sharing and hand-holding is one of the elements that make Internet communities so successful.

You should also seek a forum to help you with your Internet marketing. There are many different approaches to Internet marketing and while some people prefer the scatter-gun approach most choose one or two primary methods. Explore and text methods to determine which you feel most comfortable with and then join a forum focused on that method to help you refine your approach and achieve maximum success.

One of the primary problems with the Internet is that it can be easy to feel isolated. However forums can help bridge the gap of time and distance by serving as a community as well as an information source. Friendships and even love can be found in time and laughter and camaraderie and commiseration can help sustain the person as well as the business.

Forums can also help you find customers for your business. As you participate and share information about your business some folks will naturally express an interest. As you share your expertise and demonstrate your knowledge then you will attract still more. Don't be a pushy salesperson, simply allow your expertise to showcase your business and you will attract a quality customer relationship.

A forum can also be a great place to find partners to help you expand or promote your business in a number of ways. You might discover some like-minded soul whose business perfectly complements yours or you might discover the perfect joint-venture partner. Even if you encounter people you might view as competition try to view the relationship from many angles to see if there is a way to benefit from a partnership rather than a competition.

Joining forums can provide many benefits to you and to your business but remember that Internet communities are social contracts with rules and guidelines. Make sure you know and understand the rules before leaping into discussions. It is even more difficult to undo a bad first impression on the Internet as it cannot always be erased. Start slow and easy until you are sure of your footing. Also, be very wary about pushing your business too aggressively. That type of activity can get you banned from a forum pretty quickly. Many forums have a clearly marked area for advertising and sales posts and also allow some blatant promotion in your signature, but keep your posts on topic and helpful and you'll be better off in the long run.

Strategies To Fight Email Spam

If you are a business owner and you rely on email, spam is going to be a major concern. How you address it can make a big difference in employee efficiency. Email spam has been a nuisance and has gotten even worse over the last several years. Email spam slows down server performance and can eat away at storage.

Cleaning all those bad messages out of your inbox is time consuming. The easiest way for viruses to spread is via email.

Having a strategy to deal with email spam and viruses threats is essential for any business to survive and be productive. You can limit the negative impact to your business by having policies and guidelines in place.

Tips to avoid getting email spam:

  • If you have a company web site, use a contact form that the web site visitor
can fill out. Some spam mers use robots that crawl web pages looking for
email addresses. Your web site designer should be able to help you with this.

  • When signing up for forums, products and services use a free email or throwaway
account like hotmail or Yahoo mail.

  • When signing up for offers be careful what boxes you check although technically
not spam you may get a lot of email offers you do not want.

  • Never reply to an email spam message, this just lets them know that your
    account is active.

  • You may want to use a throwaway email address if you post on newsgroups
    or forums.
These measures may help to reduce spam, but if you have an old email address you may want to change your email address or deploy a spam filter system. There are several choices for anti spam systems you could buy software that runs locally on your PC to filter the spam, but this can be expensive, does not prevent virus infection, and is not a good choice in a networked environment. Managing individual machine spam software is inefficient.

If you have limited technical resources you can outsource you email spam filtering to a hosted anti spam and virus solution provider. Spam filter service providers colocate their spam and virus filters in data centers with redundant power and network connections. You will need to change your mail exchanger on your dns servers to point to the service providers spam filters. Your service provider will then scrub your email for spam and viruses. They then forward your email to your mail server minus the spam and viruses. This gives you a few extra layers of protection. In the event of a network outage or server downtime your email is held and is delivered when the network or your server is available minus the virus and spam. Spam filter services also scan for viruses; this adds another layer of defense to the virus software already running on your network.

If you have an organization with more than one hundred email boxes investing in your own spam filter appliance is the most cost effective solution if you have the technical expertise to manage the system. A spam appliance sits in front of your email server and blocks spam and viruses. The price of the spam appliance will depend upon your number of users, amount of mail and storage requirements.

Fighting spam is no longer be a losing battle if you have a good strategy to deal with the threat.

What Does A Blogging Consultant Look Like?

You know, normally you can find a definition of a word or phrase by typing “define: your phrase here” into google and come up with a lot of results. Currently there are millions of blogs and there are hundreds of people who call themselves “Blog or Blogging Consultants”, yet when you type “define: Blogging Consultant or Blogging Consultant” into google you get no definition.

That is probably a good thing for most blogging consultants because without a definition, there is no standard to hold them to. I’m not claiming to be the blogging guru of all time or anything of the sort. So before you “blogging consultants” out there start getting defensive about this, think before you write. If you get too nasty about the post I may ask you to define “blogging consultant” and without google many of you couldn’t do it.

Now that is out of the way, lets talk business. Every business should have a blog. There are so many reasons for your business to have a blog it would be hard to write them all in one blog post, so lets assume you know your company needs a blog.

So do you hire a blogging consultant? What qualifications do you look for in a blogging consultant? What does a blogging consultant look like? How much should I pay a blogging consultant?

Lets start with “Should you hire a blogging consultant?”

The quick answer is yes, but lets go into why first. There are a lot of things that go into making a blog popular. Technorati tags, submissions and pings to bloglists and blogsearch websites, learning how to get on the right blogrolls, etc.

If you are new to blogging it takes awhile to catch on to most of these things and most blogging consultants say that all of the above is necessary if you are going to have a successful blog.

There are more things to add to the list but this article isn’t about how to run a successful blog, it’s about blogging consultants. Hiring a blogging consultant can save you from making a lot of early mistakes and get your blog found a lot quicker than trying to do it on your own.

Now all the blogging consultants are liking me again. I can tell. But will it last?

What qualifications do you look for in a blogging consultant?

Here is where things get ugly between me and the blogging consultants. Most blogging consultants are . . . well . . . bloggers. Many of them have what they think is a successful blog although many bloggers have different ideas for what success is.

Some think it’s defined as how much they made on google adnonsense last month. Others count success by number of visitors to their website or the number of comments that appear on their blog. Still others measure their success by what the other bloggers think about them.

What do all of those bloggers who are blogging consultants have in common? They all think that having a successful blog automatically makes you a qualified blogging consultant. I told you it was going to get nasty. After this article if I measured my success by what the other bloggers think of me then I’m doomed!

Fortunately I don’t measure my success in terms of what the other bloggers and blogging consultants think. Lets get back to those qualifications for a blogging consultant.

First of all a blog is a website. It is a website that is updated often in most cases, but it is still a website. Each blogpost becomes a page of that website. So with a blog you are creating more webpages to your website as often as you post to your blog.

Now I have a question for you. Would you first look to hire a blogger to do search engine optimization for your website? Would you first look to hire a blogger to handle your AdWords campaign? Would you first look for a blogger to build your website for you?

The answer to all of the above is probably no, unless the blogger also has experience in those fields and not just for their blog. Actual websites they have built, optimized, and marketed for themselves and for clients.

A blogging consultant should not just be a blogger. They should also have all of the skills necessary to run a website. Now the blogging consultants are all mad at me again. But think about it. Many bloggers know how to write. They know how to get into the right circle of blogger friends who will link to them. They know about blogging.

So if all you need to know is how to write a blog, then hiring a blogger who knows how to write is the answer, but if you need someone who is going to manage your blog for you including posting to the blog, search engine optimization, link popularity, (and not just from blogrolls), and marketing, then you need to hire a webmaster who also blogs.

Okay, How much should I pay a blogging consultant?

How much do you have? Just kidding. A lot depends on the type of blog you want or have. A corporation blog has to pay more, not because they have more, but because there are all kinds of legal and policy matters that have to be considered with every single blog post and every single link to or from another blog or website. A small business blog doesn’t have many of the same issues as the corporate blog, but still has certain standards that need to be met.

If you have ever hired a webmaster, not a web designer, a webmaster, (Thats another article), or a Search Engine Optimization Company, or a Search Engine Marketer, or even just a Marketing Consultant, (The just was in there just so I could make consultants mad again.), then you have an idea of what a blogging consultant should cost.

Now keep in mind, if you are hiring a blogging consultant to strictly teach you how to blog, then it’s not worth as much money as when you hire a blogging consultant who is also going to perform all of the services a Webmaster and Internet Marketer would provide plus search engine optimization.

Ha ha! I still didn’t say how much it costs. It’s coming. Read on.

What does a Blogging Consultant look like?

He or she looks like someone who has more than just a blog or blogs. Someone who also owns and manages several websites for themselves and for clients. As I said before a blog is still a website.

Why Do The Search Engines Change Their Minds?

Sunday, February 22, 2009

One of the common questions that come up time after time on forums is , "why do the search engines keep changing their minds about what they want". The search engines really don't chop and change what they want, really they don't. They all want one thing, to deliver the most relevant pages to searchers. it isn't rocket science (despite what some of the telephone sake oil salespeople SEO's tell you). SEO is simple, here are off my cuff the simple basics of seo.

1) Make sure your site can be spidered
If not then all else is wasted, this is a basic that believe it or not many overlook.

2) Make sure the spiders can spider it quickly and understand the importance of every page in your site.

Set up a nice clean navigation and folder structure with the site broken dow into little pockets of focused pages. Put in place a sitemap, with links to the pages, and a brief text of what to expect at that page.

3) Carry out keyword research and do not cut corners.
Keyword research is the bedrock of any marketing, be it PPC or organic SEO, get it right and it is a joy, get it wrong you pay the price miles down the line when you have to come all the way back and start again.

4) Create the structure above, and create informative clear crisp focused pages.
A page should focus on a subject and the subject should be clearly identifiable. Make the subject the page title and your away.

5) Create clear page titles
How on earth do you expect a search algo to know what your pages are about if they are not clearly marked? Leep in mind that the page title serves two masters, the search engine, and more importantly the searcher. A clear focused page title will encourage clicks to your page.

6) Create clear quality on topic content. Search engines need content to work out what your site is all about, without it they have to guess. Quality content matched to quality backlinks into your site will help you rank well, and will please your visitors.

7) Focus your pages! The search engine algorithms need to be able to work out what each page is about on the web. Covering three or four topics on the same page will only serve to confuse the issue. Focused tight content and outbound on topic links will help both visitors and search engines.

8) Be proud of your site.
Let people know it exists, submit to directories, contact other sites that are likely to be able to share client types, and swap links.

9) Link out
So much is made of incoming links, but I am a firm believer that you can assist the search algorithms greatly by linking out to good authoritive pages from within your site. This is how it was in the beginning with academics citing each others work, and this still works today.

10) Use the right anchor text
Anchor text was again how we did it in the early days, but people kind of lost track of that. Now again they realise the importance of anchor text. Use descriptive anchor text when possible, and this includes internal links within your own site.

Well that is that take a look and tell me what is new there? The answer is nothing really. So SEO doesn't change, the search engines don't keep changing their minds about what they want. The problem is that too many people create sites that algo chase one factor or another of the algorithm, and when the weight is altered for this factor, they have to move onto another to shore it up. Create a good well balanced site with all the elements covered, and it will stand the test of time.

What Are Blogs And How Do You Profit From Them?

Saturday, February 21, 2009

'Blogs' or 'Blogging' have existed for several years and there are still many people who don't know what one is and how important it is to making you money.

A blog is a web log. It's used to add contents of a diary or news by the owner (blogger). For example, I may want to blog about the latest affiliate programs there are and ones that have good commissions as soon as I know about them. People can visit my website and see new contents on my website regularly.

A blog should contain information about a similar topic. For example, cars, computers, stamps etc... The good thing about blogs is that you can write whatever you want on it. Your visitors can even comment on what they think about a particular blog. With a blog you do not need to have any programming experience. You can update a blog easily by just typing what you want just like with a word processor. What an easy way to update a website.

So now we know what a blog is, what's so good about a blog? Why are so many talking about it?

Owners have found that updating fresh content to their websites has been made easier by using blogging software. Before blogs were popular, people had to create the content, get it transferred into HTML by the programmer, and then uploaded to the website. All this hassle is gone with blogging.

Perhaps, the most important thing about having a blog is that the search engines love them. Yes, search engines love new content. It means a website is not static, therefore search engines will visit that website often and get them indexed. If you have a blog, search engines will have your website in their listings quickly.

Blogging should be done regularly by your business. The customers should have the feeling that your blog will be updated regularly so that they will feel the need to visit often. If your blog is stagnant, then people will not go back. This is not how blogs are used.

What a lot of people don't know about blogging is that it can also help make you money. Yes - blogs can be profitable too.

One of the ways you can profit from blogs is to provide valuable content to them, and keep them regularly informed. Once you have created that relationship with them, you can place affiliate links within your blogs. These have to be products or services that you recommend to your readers to use. Good commission comes with using this idea.

You can even ask your readers to donate money to maintain your blog. Stress that your blog is a free service and you hope that they will support you etc...

Once you have a lot of visitors to your blogging website, you can use Google's Adsense which shows Google's ads on your blogs. When your visitors click on those ads, you'll get a percentage of the payment for each click. With a lot of visitors, this will add up to a nice check every month.

You can even have an advertising space at the top of your blog. Advertise this space. You can charge people weekly to advertise what they want. You may even have more than one space for advertisements. The more popular and more visitors your blog gets, the more you can charge for these advertising spaces.

My blog shows the ways in which money can be made which I've discussed throughout this article. Notice the AdSense at the top of the page and also the text link which other people will pay for once they know the blog gets traffic.

Just shows that there are so many ways to profit from blogging that it would be crazy if we don't start now.

Top 5 Mistakes Of The Frustrated AdWords Advertiser

Many frustrated Internet Marketers have abandoned their conquest into Google AdWords after being robbed left, right and center due to their inability to run a successful campaign. If you have the knowledge to run a successful campaign, you can turn it into priceless wisdom that will grant you endless profit, guaranteed!

#1: Relevance: Got a bad CTR (click-through rate)? This is undeniably the biggest problem with all people who advertise with Google. If your ad isn’t relevant to what the user is searching for, then your CTR will plummet! If your ad is relevant to your keywords, you will no doubt see a boost in your CTR, resulting in cheaper bids. Relevance is so crucial. It makes or breaks any campaign. Think long and hard about the relevancy of your advertisements.

#2: Competition: People don’t analyze their competition very well, and end up trying to use the “WOW” factor in their advertisements to attract visitors. Three simple words: Observe your competition. Look at the structure of their advertisements. In fact, look at the top performing advertisements of your niche. Draw the commonalities between them all, and structure your ad based on theirs. You must always do what successful people do. “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”.

#3: Budget: People spend $100 with their budget on their first day. It hurts me to see people telling complaining that they just lost a lot of money with AdWords. Start small, and if you are maximizing your CTR potential, raise the budget so you can get more clicks. It’s all about maximization. You don’t want to go broke in a matter of days, like many do!

#4: Inactive Keywords: Bad results with your campaign haunt you and stay with your account so long as it exists. Inactive keywords are due to your inability to have a successful CTR, and results in you having to place higher bids.. This literally drives people broke, and Google isn’t willing to be sympathetic about it. To avoid this, again, you need to think about targeting and relevancy. Relevancy is everything with AdWords. Repeat this to yourself!

#5: Ad-Writing: There are many styles of ad-writing on AdWords. One of the most famous is known as anti-marketing, which has been so saturated that many newcomers to AdWords are under the impression that it will “WOW” their target niche market. To some extent, it can. In fact, this is likely if a successful AdWords user is involved. Some niches have been so saturated with certain styles of ad-writing that it just doesn’t work anymore. In order to really achieve success with headlines and body text of an advertisement, refer to steps #1 and #2. This is all about relevancy and your competition. Target your competition in your niche, grab ideas, and make it relevant to your user.

Take some time to review these tips, and see where you can make improvements. You will be glad you did. :)

Top 5 Ways To Increase Your Adsense Revenue

The ones who have been there and done it have quite some useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted quite a lot of earnings in the past and is continuously doing so.

If webmasters want to monetize their websites, the great way to do it is through Adsense. There are lots of webmasters struggling hard to earn some good money a day through their sites. But then some of the “geniuses” of them are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from Adsense ads on their websites. What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.

Here are some 5 proven ways on how best to improve your Adsense earnings.

1. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as “adsense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.

Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.

Wordtracker: a Must for any Search Engine Optimization Project

Friday, February 20, 2009

While many factors influence the rankings of a web site, any search engine optimization effort isn’t worth even a second of your time without one and single unknown: relevant and competitive keywords.

Let’s examine an example: a local moving company decided to optimize its website. It knows (or assumes that it does) that the most popular keywords for their type of business are “movers” and “moving”. At a first glance, looks like everything’s fine: the keywords seem to be relevant, and should produce good results. However, there are two mistakes made here.

The first one is keyword relevancy. What’s the use for our local moving company of people that are looking for “movers” or “moving” in Denver, CO, Boston, MA or New York, NY, if they are located and offering services in and around San Francisco only?

Another mistake is keyword effectiveness. It’ll take much more time and effort to get top rankings for such popular and competitive general keywords as “moving” and “movers” than to get same results for something more specific and relevant, such as “movers San Francisco” or “moving San Francisco”. Not only are these keywords more likely to convert visitors to buyers, but also it’s a much easier and less time-consuming task.

If the world we live in consists of atoms, the smallest and most important particles in search engine optimization world are keywords. In fact, there’s nothing complicated about them, if one remembers three things about keywords: relevancy, effectiveness and Wordtracker.

Wordtracker.com
is an UK based company that offers an irreplaceable search engine marketing service tool: keyword research and analysis. It helps to find and pick keywords that are both relevant and competitive. Relevant mean that the keywords are related to your website, and that these are the words people are typing in Google, Yahoo or MSN in order to find your kind of business. Another important factor in determining a “good” keyword is its effectiveness. Let’s say we have a keyword “movers” which has a record of appearing in Google search list for 1009 times; there are 15400000 different web pages competing for this keyword. This means that this keyword’s effectiveness index is 1009/15400000=0.066. This index shows that the keyword is far too competitive and you’ll probably end up somewhere in the middle of Google’s search results if you try to optimize your webpage for this particular keyword. A rule of thumb is to find keywords that are quite popular and at the same time have fewer webpages competing for them. A good keyword is considered to have an effectiveness index of over 100, although anything in between 10 and 100 can be targeted as well.

Needless to say, without having the right keywords that are both relevant and competitive it’s impossible to succeed in any search engine optimization campaign. Without knowing your niche words, you’ll probably end up competing against web sites with thousands of inbound links optimized by search engine optimization gurus and will be lost in millions of search results – no one will even ever find out you exist. On the other hand, all it takes to get your web traffic from 0 to couple hundreds a day might be something as simple and cost-effective as Wordtracker.

Why Not to Start using CGI Proxy sites?

Everyone now these days is concerned with protecting their personal information form prying eyes on the web. With the continuing increase cases of stealing personal web identities, many people have been misdirected about what information needs to be hidden on line and the best way to achieve a more secure Internet environment. One of the most common ideas is that when you start using cgi proxy sites the security level increases.

CGI Proxy sites work by very quickly and effectively relaying web page request for users to web sites and back. The CGI Proxy script relays your information without ever revealing exactly who you are. So you are anonymous to the web site you are visiting. This is done in a near seamless manor with the user only seeing a small advertising bar on top of the page. This information is going in both directions with the web site server talking to the server hosting the CGI proxy site. The website server does not know your location (IP address), browser type, language settings, cannot set cookies on your computer and Javascripts may be restricted.

What most users do not realize is that the cgi proxy server keeps a log of all the activity including web pages visited, user names, passwords, addresses, credit card numbers or anything else a person enters in in the web pages surfed through a cgi proxy. This treasure of data is exactly what people want to hide on the Internet but by using a CGI Proxy site you have just delivered the information to the CGI Proxy site owwner.

In 99% of cases the web site being visited should be more reliable and secure than a web based cgi proxy service. For example visiting Yahoo mail from a new fast running CGI Proxy site, Yahoo is less likely to criminally use provided information collected from its websites combined with the knowledge of your location and browser type than a small website operator hosting a free CGI Proxy script. While logging into your yahoo account and not revealing your location (IP) to yahoo may sound positive, the price you pay is sharing all of your information including passwords with the CGI proxy site owner.

Credit card information, addresses, contacts or any other information entered on a web form while surfing pages through a CGI Proxy site are also available in the server logs. Don't take the unneeded risk with your personal information, DO NOT USE WEBBASED CGI PROXY SITES FOR ANONYMITY.

CGI Proxy sites do have evolved into a leading way to bypass network website filters that block specific sites. just be sure that you know the risk involved in checking your hotmail from work or looking at your myspace profile at school. This is a leading source of hijacked profiles for these sites.

Writing Business Articles? Follow These 5 Steps To Business Writing Success

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Business articles are a great way to let readers searching the Internet know everything about your new or existing company, and what you can offer them in your unique products and services.

You may be a company that only does business on the Internet, or a Brick & Mortar retail store that would like to increase their online presence via your web site to create additional exposure internationally or worldwide, and increase your customer base.

No matter what type of business approach you take, you will realize that finding a variety of marketing avenues to reach new potential customers is one of the most important components for the growth of your new or well-established business.

When you finally decided to test the waters in article writing because you wanted to add it to your overall marketing plan, I’m sure you will quickly realize that this is a very powerful, yet cost effective way to reach enormous amounts of targeted traffic!

However, in order to reach your desired traffic online, you must not only create value added, informative and creative articles, but you must place them on the Internet for people to find and read. If you’re not sure where to start, you can use my 5 simple article-writing steps as a guideline, and create your own writing style and article distribution plan that will work best for you:

Tip #1: Have a complete understanding of the business you’re in, the product and services you offer, and don’t over sell and underachieve your readers!

I’m surprised how many times I read an article where some company is telling me they will offer you the world, and when you visit their web site, it looks like they actually do offer you the world, a lot of dirt, and the some of that smelly stuff.

Example: Company XYZ expresses that they’re #1 in customer service online, and when you provide a link to your site for your readers to view your claim that you wrote in your article, the reader navigates your site, and quickly they notice you have no access to a live customer service chat service, any toll-free numbers to reach a customers service specialist, and all you’re providing them is an email address saying that you may get back to them sometime after the summer beach season is over. If you don’t offer the best customer service on the Internet or planet, don’t even think for a minute to convey that message to your readers.

Tip #2: Don’t get business article writing mixed up with a press release!

Writing press releases are a good way to get the message out that your company offers a unique and exclusive product in the market, and you want to introduce it with a bang, or that your business just hired a top executive that will drive your company shares straight up in the stock market. Writing your business article is slightly different, you want to use your article to express your company’s best features and benefits offered.

Write about how you can save time and money, or give them a better lifestyle, how about your products/services offer customers that give them complete “Peace-of-Mind”. Believe it or not, people do searches to find your products and services to either solve a problem, or possibly to fill a desired need they have. You have to tell them how you’re going to solve their problems, and fill their needs, and put it in writing.

Tip #3: Find out who your readers are, and write your article in their language!

Nothing is worse than when I come across an interesting article, and I find out halfway through, there is a completely different language that I don’t understand. There are many business writers that have a technical writing background, and when they communicate their message in the article, readers may stumble on your article that is saturated in technical mumbo jumbo that only tech savvy individuals understand.

When you start preparing to write you article, think about your people you want to reach, and who will be interested in reading your information, because if you’re writing for the non-technical person, and you put a ton of information that the average individual won’t understand, your message will definitely be lost and your readers you’re trying to attract will move on and find another article that is easier to read.

Tip #4 Once you have written the perfect article, now you want to know how to reach your targeted readers!

You wrote the perfect article, and it is jam packed with your features and benefits. You’re telling your potential readers how to reach you, but they won’t be able to reach you if you don’t take the steps to get your article out there on the web.

The best way to get your company article distributed is through ezine and article distribution directories. You may decide to only submit your articles to a select few of the top article directories that offer a high volume of traffic, but I would suggest that you consider also submitting to a variety of smaller ones, because you never know where they will be picked up from and prominently placed for inbound traffic.

One of the biggest changes happening with article directories is that you will find more niche targeted business content distribution sites that focus on your related themes. Highly consider these sites, because they not only offer you more category options, these sites will eventually be classified as an authority site on your specific business topics.

Tip #5 Your Author Bio can make or break the goal of your article!

Believe it or not, but your Author Bio is probably the most important piece to your article puzzle! You worked very hard on your article, and you took the time to make sure your message was clear and to the point, but what I find with many well-written pieces is that they end with a very weak author bio. It’s like winning your customer over with a knockout presentation, and then not asking for the sale.

The same goes with your Bio, you should not over sell, but you definitely should let your readers know you’re the expert, and that everything you talked about in your article will be explained in more detail once they click through your hyperlinks. If you’re talking about a specific product or service and you have several pages with more information, normally most directories will allow you to place up to a maximum of three links including your main index page. Take advantage of this, and always maximize your links that will give you many optimizing opportunities.

These tips are pretty straightforward, and most of you would consider them to be common sense, but even the best article writers sometimes get off track, and may forget some of the fundamentals of writing. It’s always good to get some outside tips to get you right back on track. Take my advice and use it as a tool to help you design your own writing style, and before you know it, your article will be flooding the Internet with business flair!

What Do Boy Scouts and Podcasting Have in Common?

Always be prepared. It is the Boy Scout motto but preparation is also critical to the production of a successful podcast. You might want to start by first listening to a variety of podcasts to get a better idea of the variety of formats and styles that exist within the medium.

Also it's important to brainstorm and come up with several possible topics to cover in your podcasts. A good source of material could be any kind of new developments or interesting news about your company. You might want to go over any press releases that you've recently issued for ideas. Also are there any innovative products or service features that distinguish you from your competition? This should be the springboard for your outline. Do some research and try to see if you can tie it into something newsworthy. Keep in mind who your target audience is so that the message is relevant and as well as engaging to them.

Try to keep in mind that you'll want to share just enough information to pique your visitors' curiosity in order to get them to tune to the upcoming installments of podcast series. You want to make your podcasting engaging without going into to too much or too little detail. You want to maximize listener retention, and as you can imagine, getting new listeners is a challenge so you surely don't want to loose them once you have them.

How do you Structure your podcast?

To make sure you cover everything you want without being redundant you should develop an outline of just what you'd like to include in each podcast, as well as a basic outline of the series.

1) You need an outline of your potential podcast ideas .
2) Create an order for the shows starting with a basic introductory show that explains who you are and what your show is about and then schedule your regular shows from there.
3) You'll need to create an outline for each individual podcast.

This should include an:
a) intro
b) 2 or 3 important points
c) Summary with contact info

Remember that the content of your podcast is critical, and the outline it will enable you to be sure you don't lose your audience. How long your podcast will be is directly related to how much news you have to share and the extent to which you can keep that news fresh and exciting. Frequency of updates is also an important issue to address. This will likely depend on your industry, the and the number of new developments, or newsworthy happenings. Keep in mind though that most people are probably listening while in their car. You have a finite amount of time. If you produce a 45 minute podcast it had better be well edited and put together. It probably easier to be brief, and divide a much longer show into shorter more regular 15-30 minute broadcasts.

Whether creating your own podcast or outsourcing it elsewhere it's important to keep in mind that preparation is the first step in creating a successful podcast.

You won't get scammed if you know what to look out for!

You have all heard and seen of the scams when it comes to work from home money making methods such as paid surveys. You can avoid them if you look carefully as they all follow a certain pattern so once you know what to look out for you won't fall victim to these scams.
After careful studies of these known scammers I can tell you the certain features to watch out so you don't give them the satisfaction of thinking they have fooled another gullible person. The first and most important thing to look out for is do you need to pay for this service? If you do have to, why? When you get a normal offline job do you pay your boss to have the privilege to work for him? I didn't think so. However there are the few exceptions when it comes to paying upfront but these are rare occasions. Some companies charge a fee so you don't have to search the internet for the best resources to get the surveys but I cannot stress enough that many of these are scams so be sure to do your research before and try to contact people who have used them before.

A lot of these scammer sites have a great sales pitch and excellent testimonials but you can't trust everything you see on a website as you will all know it's very easily to build a very promising website with loads of feedback but you never know if it's true. Even if you get in contact with these people you don't know if there friends of the website owners willing to participate in the scam. The best thing you can do before you start up with a company (especially a paid one) is to do some research on them and look around for the ones with the best reviews by a range of people.

If you do get scammed by a company don't loose faith as this is a proven method to generate a nice side income, try to learn from your mistakes and try another and you will get the successful one that will give you that extra source of income. I know many people doing this in their spare time so there are legit companies out there which will send you the surveys and don't even require any money up front.

There are many blogs where people have given their success stories stating which companies they used and which they think they got the best results from. They also provide a list of any companies they found to be a waste of time so having a quick read can save you loads of time and money.

Where To Get Content For Your Blog

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Blogs and websites that have rich content are always going to do better than those that don’t. I am sure you wondered where these blogs get their ideas, views and opinions. It is easy to write about something you are passionate about- but to do that most days of the week is extremely hard, since you would probably run out of things to talk about or you simply don’t have the time. So how do they do it? Where do they get their ideas? Do they get help from tools and other sources available on the Internet?

The best way would be to provide the content yourself, and this is of utmost importance if your goal is to try to create traffic to an affiliated link. You’ll definitely want to sell the idea about the services and products beforehand. What that will do is set the stage or the “mood” and give your recommendations authenticity.

Expounding on the uses of a particular service or product, with your own likes and dislikes, achieves this naturally. With an affiliate program, it is a good idea to have a personal anecdote that goes hand in hand with the product or service.

Using private label articles is a viable alternative. PL articles abound in the Internet and you can always buy some that are connected to your central topic and then place them in your blog. One way of maximizing a purchased PLA is to cut it down into several pieces, thereby maximizing its content.

Utilizing RSS feeds to post on blogs is becoming very popular, although not everyone is familiar or willing to learn about RSS feeds. The advantage to an RSS feed is that your blog is automatically updated with fresh news and content. The disadvantage is that it is not unique content and that anybody interested in the feed will likely click out on a story that appeals to them.

Putting in your very own content is the best way to go. One way to find fresh ideas is to look for an appealing news article and then do a summary write-up based on it. It’s not as easy as it sounds, but you and your readers will find it the most rewarding way. If you feel that you just don’t cut it as a writer or you genuinely don’t have the time, then hire someone else to do it for you. There are many services out there who provide a “blog service” which includes daily posts of unique, engaging content and you can instruct these content writers as to where you want the links in your blog pointing to- so that any burden of cost in terms of hiring them should be offset by the gains in your increased visitor base, the marketing of your other websites and earnings from your affiliate programs.

These are the best ways to generate content for your blog. It is advisable not to be going with the automated path. If you do decide to do that, you will probably have plenty of content- but the substance of the text is unlikely to increase traffic for you. Putting in some good, old-fashioned content work will yield better results for you. As the expression goes- “you get out what you put in….”!!
