Favorite Car Color

Friday, December 25, 2009

Silver has remained the favored new car color choice in North America for the ninth consecutive year. 2009 Survey results show that 57% of new cars sold this year have been either silver, black or white.

This year is the ninth consecutive year that silver has topped the list of favored colors for new cars. The silver paint used by car makers today is much more advanced than the paint that was used when this color first became popular. Paint and paint spraying technology is constantly improving enabling car makers to offer an ever increasing range of colors.

But while silver, black and white remain at the top of car buyers favored colors Ford has had some success with more eye-catching colors like pale blue, known as Grabber Blue and Molten Orange. The new, subcompact Ford Fiesta that will arrive in the US next year will be available in a range of vibrant, bright colors including bright green and red as well as the popular silver, black and white.

There is much more color variety in Europe where the small car market is very strong with 37% of vehicle sporting red, green, brown and blue paintwork.

Auto manufacturers have also turned their attention to making their car interiors more attractive by using varied accent colors. New paints are being introduced that include glass particles that make the paint shimmer and shine.

Many believe that color can have a profound psychological effect. The color red is believed to be stimulating, improving circulation and attentiveness whereas blue is thought to be calming and soothing. Many psychologists thinke that color therapy is ineffective.

Fifteem years ago only 1% of new cars were silver in color with the most popular color choice at that time being green. Color fashions clearly change over time making it near impossible to predict the next hot color.
